Balancing nature and people

A new project aims to limit the impacts of outdoor activities on the Norfolk Coast.

It’s no secret that the Norfolk Coast is an incredibly popular destination. Each year, we welcome millions of visitors to our beautiful region for days out at the beach, weekends with friends and cosy family staycations.

These visitors enjoy the wide range of activities on offer on our coast, from casual strolls with the dog to adventures by bike, kayak and sailing boat. But these activities can cause damage to our sensitive habitats and disturb the species that live within them, such as ground-nesting birds and breeding seals, sometimes with serious consequences.

We want to keep the Norfolk Coast special – both for its wildlife and for the people who live, work and spend time here – so we’re excited to be launching a new project, Caring for our coast together, that aims to reduce the negative impacts of outdoor activities, whilst continuing to celebrate all that the area has to offer to visitors.

We’ll be speaking to communities and businesses across the coast to raise awareness of our iconic species and share guidance on how to visit and enjoy the area responsibly. Be sure to look out for us at local events, where we’ll be spreading the word, and keep an eye on our website and Instagram, where we’ll be sharing the latest updates.

This project will be highly collaborative, and we’ll be connecting with landowners and managers across the Norfolk coastline to share ideas and work together. We’re delighted to have the RSPB on board as our main partner for the project, with funding kindly provided by the Swire Trust.
