Protecting our sensitive sites

A new phase of work will look at dispersing visitor numbers to help protect nature.

We’re very excited to start a new phase of the Limits of Acceptable Change project within the National Landscape.

This project aims to disperse visitor pressure throughout the landscape to help protect our sensitive areas.

Following a successful application to WWF Wholescapes Fund, we have appointed experts, Footprint Ecology, who will carry out the second phase of our project. They will be gathering and assessing visitor numbers at key sites across the National Landscape and will work with local stakeholders to discuss sustainable management options. As part of the project, there will also be a pilot initiative to test new strategies of managing visitors in fragile sites.

Phase 1 of this project took place during 2022 where we first worked with Footprint Ecology and local stakeholders to identify areas of concern. We then looked at how we could address these concerns and change the way visitors are managed within sensitive areas of our landscape.
